Agenda Items:

  1. Introductions

We have several new members to CHOP this year and many of them were able to attend this meeting.  Everyone introduced themselves, noting where they were from and how many years they have been officiating.

  1. Review of By-Laws

Cameron has been working on the by-laws for CHOP and this is the first time that non-board members of CHOP have had the opportunity to review them.  The biggest area of concern was section 3: membership categories.  It was suggested that the definition of an active member be reworded.  The completion of a minimum of 25 CHOP game assignments will be over a lifetime, not annual.  It was also suggested that this number be lowered.  Other concerns were mentioned and addressed by the board.

  1. Background checks

CHOP will begin running random background checks on officials soon.  Because we work in close proximity to minors, the board felt this was a necessary addition.

  1. CHOP Concerns and Issues

All members in attendance were reminded that no one has the right to give out any phone numbers (home or otherwise) of officials to any players, captains, coaches, or parents.  If anyone has a complaint, they can direct it to the rink management or to the CHOP website.

Members were reminded that the must fill out a game report anytime a player is given a game misconduct.  Procedures for where to find the reports, how to fill them out and where to turn them in were reviewed.

Everyone was also reminded to check the score sheets before signing them.  Penalties should be reviewed as well as scores.

CHOP will be using a new web service soon to help with scheduling, pay check sheets, game availability, phone lists, etc.  We hope to be using this in some capacity this summer and have it fully operational this fall.

Andy discussed the small number of CHOP members and the growth of hockey in Charlotte .  A new rink with two sheets will be open this fall and there are no plans at this point for either of the existing rinks to close.  We need to recruit more officials or the rinks will be forced to pull in officials from other associations outside of CHOP.  Andy said he would be glad to hold another seminar as long as there were at least 12 people in attendance.

Cameron is interested in holding continuing education sessions, both on and off the ice.  He wants anyone interested in attending to email him.

Cameron also needs people to help with evaluations.  All level 3’s and 4’s may participate and a meeting will be held to show everyone interested in how to conduct an evaluation.  Members that are interested should email Cameron by the end of next week.

  1. Fund Raising

We are looking into holding a blood drive in the near future.  More information to come soon.

CHOP has held golf tournaments in the past with success.  If anyone is interested in heading this project, please do.

Under-privileged players’ fund.  Again, we need someone to head this project.  Cameron would be a good contact to get started.

  1. The next meeting will be in March or April.  We are going to try and hold quarterly meetings.

Thanks

Susan Collins

Secretary
